Second City- UP Comedy Club (July 8th, 2017)

We arrived at the comedy club early, per usual. Name tags and buttons were waiting for us. Since it was a comedy show, and M and I like to be jokesters, M's 'profile name' on the name tag read "OnlyInterestedInButtStuff" and mine was "BetterHave$$$". (I will neither confirm or deny the validity of these names, haha). We were there to see #DateMe: An OKCupid Experiment. It is a perfect show for anyone; single, taken, married, divorced or a complete weirdo. The show follows an actual experiment conducted by one of the main actor of the show. After messing around on OKCupid, she decided to explore the question: "Is anyone truly undateable online?" After making 38 undateable characters, she recorded the responds from people who took interest. Throughout the show, the actors take the real-life dialogue of the actual people who messaged the undateables to present the findings of the 'experiment' and the process is hilarious. It's a great show full of humor and lewd dialogue, but also holds a great message about the importance of human connection and love.

Lyric Opera House (September 27th, 2014)

It was opening night for the 2014-2015 season at the Lyric Opera House. I dressed in my senior prom dress (yes, it still fit after 3+ years), and M wore his suit. The train ride and the walk to the Opera house was a bit awkward since we were dressed to the nines, but as soon as we turned the corner onto Wacker Drive we felt right at home; it was like a red carpet. Everyone was in gowns and suits. We sat in the upper balcony but still had a perfect view of the Mozart’s opera: Don Giovanni. It tells the story of the infamous ladies’ man Don Giovanni, a master seducer who travels across Europe in pursuit of women with his resourceful servant, Leporello. The entire opera was in Italian, but luckily there was a screen which played the subtitles so we could follow along. It was a comical and dramatic story of love, revenge and murder that began and ended perfectly.

Second City- Main Stage (June 14th, 2014)

We arrive an hour and half early because we were in the area. Being the first people there had its advantage in that we were the first people in line, so the best seats went to us. We sat center stage, front row; the stage could have literally been our table. We saw ‘The Best of Second City’, and it was HILARIOUS. Every sketch had me laughing out loud. It featured some of the best sketches, songs, and improvisations from the fifty-two year history of The Second City Touring Company, which introduced comedians like Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Bill Murray. This show as definitely 5-stars, and something I would strongly recommend seeing!

House of Blues (July 24th, 2013)

The Metallica Tribute band ‘Blackened’ was playing at the House of Blues so we decided to go see them. The House of Blues has a great atmosphere when you walk in. The venue is laid out like an opera house with balconies overlooking the stage and curtains draped from the tall ceilings. We wanted to be in the crowd, so we planted ourselves in the front row, center stage. The concert was awesome and lasted 2+ hours. M even caught the drummer’s drumstick he threw into the audience. We had to leave before the show ended to be able to get the last train home. We left with so little time, we had to run a mile to the train station. The late night made the city peaceful; there was only us running and yelling (we lost our hearing because of the loud music) to break the silence of the night.
