Door Trail:
It's a perfect 1-mile round trip hike. A short boardwalk took us through a natural passageway to a viewing platform. Beyond that, we followed a level path across the stony landscape to an overlook with views of steep eroded canyons. While walking through the Door trail, there is no shade and no designated trail. You have to look for numbered poles that guide you to the end of the trail. Once you reach the overlook, you can relax on the rocks and look out over the colored canyons.
Notch Trail:
This 1.3 mile round trip hike travels up a canyon to an overlook with massive views over the Great Plains. We followed the dirt trail which lead to a steep wooden ladder which was attached to the side of the canyon, which M hated. Up over 50 steps and we were finally at the top. Next we skirted around the edge a cliff before returning to the canyon floor above the dry falls. The hike came to a sudden end at a cliff, and the overlook had sweeping views of the Badland's unique landscape as well as miles and miles of prairie grasses. It was quite beautiful. We turned around and explored some more rock formations and nooks on our way back before heading down the ladder to the ground floor.
