Wall Drug

The remote town of Wall, SD attracts over 2 million visitors a year, and if you visit South Dakota this tourist destination is a must! We saw more than 50 signs, some as far as 300 miles out, for the famous Wall Drug Store. Wall Drug is actually a cowboy-themed shopping mall consisting of a drug store, gift shops, restaurants and even a chapel. You can go from store to store picking out your favorite souvenir, all while under shelter.

When Wall Drug was bought in 1931 by Ted Hustead, business started very slow, until his wife thought of advertising free ice water to parched travelers heading through the Badlands. From that time on business was booming. To date, Wall Drug still offers free ice water, but as they have become more popular, other big things to do there include getting a bumper stickers or try their coffee for 5 cents. Be sure to visit the Western Art Gallery Restaurant and get their pot roast dinner...it's too die for.
