I feel like Ohio is an unrated state. I've been there twice now on vacation and people always say, "why are you going to Ohio...*barf emoji". That being said, I believe Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio is also one of the most unrated National Parks, even though it's one of the most visited National Parks in the country.
We started driving down the street from our hotel on the way to our first destination in the park, Brandywine Falls, and all of the sudden a small sign informed us we were now in the park. Despite having 2.2 million visitors each year, the park was not crowded with people.
Brandywine Gorge Trail is a 1.5 mile loop. Be sure to take the trail clockwise so you finish your hike with the Falls, a beautiful 65 foot waterfall carved from Brandywine Creek. We made the mistake of going counterclockwise and saw the Falls right off the bat. About half way through the trail, you will reach Brandywine Creek. Step off the trail onto the banks of the creek and explore. You will definitely find solitude along this portion of the trail.
After Brandywine, we drove to the Ledges trail. This 1.8 mile loops encircles the Ledges shelter, so there are numerous entry points to start the trail. This hike is great if you are crunched for time, as you can walk small portions and be back to the parking area in a blink of an eye. We decided the entire trail, and it's offers a lot! There are flat paths, up and down paths through the trees, rocks to climb, and caves and crevices to explore.
Overall, Ohio's only National Park has a lot to offer. Go explore and see for yourself.
